Get to Know: Baseball's #12 Jack Meissner

Jack Meissner is in his third season in the program. He has signed with US Santa Barbara to play next fall. As a junior, Meissner led the Brophy team in hitting at .494 with a team-best 27 RBI and 25 runs scored. He is hitting .529 this season with a team-best four doubles, two home runs, and 8 RBIs. He is the reigning Arizona Republic Male Athlete of the Week.

How is the season going?
“It feels great. More than just me, I feel like everyone is starting to get hot at the right time.”

What did it mean to be named Arizona Republic Male Athlete of the Week?
“It was cool. More than the baseball side, it was competing against the other sports. It was cool to win.”

What are you looking forward to about the opportunity to play at UC Santa Barbara?
“I am looking forward to the teammates and the coaching staff. They wanted me there.”

What was the feeling on your grand slam against Notre Dame Prep?
“I was not looking at the ball. I was looking at the dugout to try to fire them up. It was the best ball I have hit on this field. It was a great situation against NDP. I am friends with most of the kids on that team. It was a close game back and forth.”

What are your goals for the rest of the season?
“If we can stay on the same path and compete with all the teams, it is not about wins and losses but competing. We will win most of those games if we compete at the highest level.”

What is the best aspect of playing home games at Opus Field?
“Everyone plays loose and tries to have fun. We play our best when having fun and joking, but we can stay locked in white while doing it.”

How did Coach Unrein impact your baseball path?
“I was just coming back from shoulder surgery and was iffy about coming back to play baseball for a while. I had him as my coach, and he was very supportive during my injury and my transfer sit-out period. He treated me like everyone else.”

How does it feel to have your improvement and growth?
“It is crazy. I was unsure I would play a little over a year ago. I wasn’t too high on the depth chart in the infield. I trusted the work I put in. It all started to show in the results slowly.”
