  • Cross Country

    NO CUTS – The Cross Country team engages in long-distance running and participates in meets at the varsity, junior varsity and freshman levels.

    Voluntary team workouts will begin Monday, June 11 at 6 a.m. in front of Brophy Hall. Runs will be hosted Monday-Thursday mornings through the end of June. Students enrolled in summer school should come to workouts with school and shower gear (facilities will be open). All student-athletes should be well-hydrated, in proper running attire and have a digital watch.

    Pre-season training will re-commence Monday, July 16, with official (mandatory) practices beginning Monday, Aug. 6
    Cross country has a no-cut policy, but once practices begin in August, we do expect attendance at every practice. 

    All team members will receive a Brophy uniform and compete in all races except two (sectional and state meets) which are reserved for Brophy’s top seven runners.

    FRESHMAN FOOTBALL INFORMATION


    NO CUTS – Brophy welcomes any freshman who would like to play football to the Freshman Football Program. Since there are no cuts, size dictates two divisions within the freshman program - Red division and White division. It is one team, however, that works together to train and support one another as they lay the foundation for a future varsity program.

  • Freshman Tennis

    (Information below is for 2017; 2018 dates to come.)

    Practice begins Monday, Aug. 14. Freshman tennis is a no-cut sport!
     
    All athletes must have their physicals turned in before they will be allowed to play. Players will catch a bus in front of Loyola Hall at 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday for the ride to the Phoenix Tennis Center (6330 N. 21st Ave., Phoenix, Ariz. 85015). Don't forget your racquet! Practices are from 3:15-5:15 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
     
    Parents should arrive at the Phoenix Tennis Center to pick up their sons at 5:10 p.m. daily. The bus will be going back to Brophy after practice and should be there around 5:30 p.m.

    Team uniforms can be purchased in the Brophy Varsity Shop. The team fee for freshman tennis is $30 (team uniform is not incuded in the fee).

    JV and varsity tennis begins in the spring semester. If you have questions about JV or varsity, please email Coach Eric Chalmers.
  • Golf

    The first two rounds of tryouts are set for Monday, Aug. 6 and Tues., Aug. 7 at Encanto Golf Course with tee times beginning at 3 p.m. We will be playing the front 9 both days. There will be a cut after Day 1 and another after Day 2.

    Rounds three and four will be played Wednesday, Aug. 8 and Thursday, Aug. 9 on the front 9 of the Phoenix Country Club course with a final cut after Day 4. Tee times will begin at 3 p.m.

  • Swim and Dive

    Tryouts: Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 8-9, 2:45 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 10, 5:30-7:30 a.m. at the Fr. Edward A. Reese, S.J. Aquatic Center on the Brophy campus. Be ready to swim! Email Coach Daren Brubaker with any questions.

Winter Sports

  • Basketball

    (Information below is for 2017; 2018 dates to come.)

    The Brophy Basketball program includes three teams (varsity, junior varsity, and freshman).

    Tryouts begin Monday, October 30. Prior to tryouts, the coaches of each team (varsity, junior varsity, and freshman) will host a mandatory informational meeting for players who intend to try out. The dates, times, and locations of the meetings will be included in the daily announcements, the weekly bulletins, and the Brophy eNews so look for that information in early October.

    Practices for all three levels will take place six days a week. Players will have practices over both Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks.

    During the fall, there will be open gym opportunities. To keep informed about this schedule, be sure to check the weekly bulletin and listen to the daily announcements. If players or parents would like to join the Brophy basketball email list, please email your request to brophyhoops@gmail.com

  • Soccer

    The Brophy Soccer Program includes three teams - varsity, junior varsity and junior varsity B. Additional information on soccer at Brophy:
    • Soccer is a cut sport.
    • Tryouts are closed to parents. Parents must wait outside the entrance to the Brophy Sports Campus. All tryout information will be added to the website and calendar as it becomes available. 
    • Tryouts begin Monday, Oct. 29. Prior to tryouts, the coaches of each team (varsity, junior varsity and junior varsity B) will host a mandatory meeting for players who intend to try out. The dates, times and locations of the meetings will be included on the calendar, in the daily and weekly bulletins, and in the Brophy College Prep eNews.
    • All athletes must have turned in their physical forms prior to participation!

  • Wrestling

    (Information below is for 2017; 2018 dates to come.)

    NO CUTS. Wrestling is a no-cut sport at Brophy, however wrestle-offs are held (at times) to determine a starter in a particular weight class. Freshman, JV, and Varsity grapplers begin practice on October 30, 2017.

    The uniform (a singlet) and match sweats are provided by Brophy; however, backpacks and season t-shirts and sweatshirts need to be purchased by team members through the Varsity Shop.

    For parents interested in assisting with drinks and snacks at matches (oranges, bananas, and hydrating fluids) and planning a year-end event, please email Coach Catan. Three or four team parents are needed.

Spring Sports

  • Baseball

    Varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen baseball teams represent the school. Please email Coach Josh Garcia with any questions.
     
  • Tennis

    Brophy Tennis offers varsity and junior varsity levels of competition. Freshmen are welcome to try out for either team.

  • Track

    NO CUTS. There are a variety of running and field events, with competition at varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen levels.
  • Volleyball

    The Volleyball program, which includes varsity and junior varsity teams, competes during the spring. Each team carries between 12 and 16 players. Six spots on the JV team are reserved for 9th grade student-athletes, though additional freshmen have made the team in past years. There will be open gyms after school beginning in September. Dates and times will be announced in the Daily Bulletin.

  • Crew

    Crew is a no-cut sport at Brophy and no experience is required. Dues cover everything during the year except uniforms. Crew is a year-round sport but athletes can choose to participate during just the fall or spring semester, if they want to do another sport.

  • Hockey

    Tryouts:
    • Tuesday, Aug. 7, 6-7 a.m. – all players
    • Wednesday, Aug. 8, 4-5 p.m. – JV players only
    • Thursday, Aug. 9, 6-7 a.m. - Varsity players only at Arcadia Ice:3853 E Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018.
    Practices will start on Tuesday, Aug. 14 for both the varsity and JV team. There is a parent meeting Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Arcadia Ice. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Mike Grams at michael.grams@brophyprep.org.
  • Lacrosse

    Coach Widbin Takes Over as Head Coach

    Mr. Zach Widbin, who joined Brophy's lacrosse program in 2009, has taken over as head coach. Leading up to this, he coached the Broncos at the JV and Varsity II levels, and has served as varsity defensive coordinator since 2013.

    Coach Widbin grew up in New York's Hudson Valley and earned All-American lacrosse honors as a senior. He was also his section's selection to the U.S. Lacrosse National Senior Showcase. He was recruited by Harvard where he played midfield and attack for the Crimson and was a member of Harvard's 2006 NCAA tournament team. As a college senior, he won the team's Outstanding Player Award and the Class of '59 Trophy for Leadership. He was also selected as an NEILA all-star.

    During his time at Brophy, Coach Widbin took the Varsity II team to the state Division I playoffs and was part of the coaching staff for the Broncos' 2013 state championship season. Last year's varsity team went all the way to the state championship game, ending the season as runner-up.

    Brophy lacrosse fields varsity and junior varsity teams during the spring season. JV is no-cut; varsity fields a team via tryouts. All students wishing to play on varsity must try out, including juniors and seniors.
     
    Fees
    • $50.00 – Fall Registration and Tryouts (All interested participants must register, regardless of fall status)
    • $750.00 – Spring Fee (2017)
    • $35 – U.S. Lacrosse membership (All players must have current memberships for spring season)
    • $35 – Individual player fee – Paid to Arizona Lacrosse League for spring season
    • $600 – Approximate additional fee for Varsity if team travels out of state (have done so the last seven years)

    Tryout Information

    • Tryouts – Last week in January for varsity and first week of spring sports for JV
    • Fall Conditioning – Begins in late September/early October (Mandatory for all interested players not competing in a Brophy fall sport)
    • Fall Training 2017– TBA

Concussion Education

 
The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) mandates that all athletes complete concussion education before they are allowed to participate in high school sports.
  • Athletes, follow the link (below) to the Brainbook course.
  • Register as a student.
  • Take the course and the exam.
  • Email your coach (for the sport in which you hope to participate) and let him know 1) the date you completed the course/exam and 2) your score.
