The Bronco-for-a-Day Shadow Program

Our Bronco-for-a-Day shadow program provides an opportunity for an applicant to accompany his freshman host through a typical day's schedule. Our guests will be introduced to our block schedule, see the campus, learn about our academic and extracurricular programs, and meet students.

Shadowing is not a mandatory part of the application process, but it is a great opportunity to learn more about the Brophy community and helps when it comes time to make a decision about attending Brophy.

Guests of the Bronco-for-a-Day shadow program must be in eighth grade or above (transfer student applicants will be able to shadow the second semester).
  • Guests arrive at the Admissions Office at 7:45 a.m.
  • Your son will be introduced to his freshman host who will welcome him and spend the day with him.
  • Lunch will be provided to our guests (up to $8.00) in our cafeteria, The Corral. Shadow guests can also bring their own lunch or additional cash to spend in The Corral.
  • On most shadow days, parents are invited to stay after drop-off for an optional meet-and-greet from 8-9 a.m. with Director of Admissions Mike Ward. He will provide a short introduction to Brophy and the admissions process, as well as give parents a brief campus tour.  Contact our office to find out if a meet-and-greet is scheduled on your son's selected shadow day.
  • Students will stay until the end of the school day which is 2:30 p.m. unless it's a Friday (release time is 12:35 or 1:00 p.m.)

Answering Your Questions

List of 8 frequently asked questions.

  • Q How do I schedule a Bronco-for-a-Day shadow day visit?

Starting in August, you can create an account in our new student information system, Veracross/myBrophy. You are required to fill out a short form providing information about your son — where he goes to school, his interests and contact information. Once you have an account, you will have access to the Application Checklist. Sign ups for admissions events like Shadow Days can be found on the Application Checklist.

Please check with your school for any conflicts with testing, field trips, sporting events or other scheduled events before signing up for a specific shadow day.
  • Q With whom will I spend the day when I shadow at Brophy?

We assign freshman shadow day hosts from our Diplomatic Corps based on interests (e.g. sports, music, activities, etc.) or middle school; or you can request a Brophy freshman you know. (All hosts are freshmen.)
  • Q Where do I go when I arrive for my shadow day?

Please check outside of the Admissions Office (located in the McCain Colonnade next to Eller) when you arrive on campus.

Parents are not required to sign their son in or out. Your son can come to campus with another Brophy student or with a carpool if you like, but he must check in with the Admissions Office.
  • Q How long is a shadow day?

Please arrive at 7:45 a.m.; your day will end at 2:30 p.m.  You can request an earlier pick-up at 1:00 p.m. if you prefer. There are a limited number of Friday 1/2 day shadow days which end at 12:35 p.m.

The school day begins at 8 a.m. and your host will walk you back to the Admissions Office to complete a short evaluation at the end of his day. Please confirm with your son when you drop him off if you will meet him in our office or in the parking lot when you pick him up.

Parents, please park in the south parking lot. Contact the Admissions Office if you would like a campus map.
  • Q What is Brophy's dress code for a shadow day?

Wear a collared shirt (polo, button-down, etc.), and slacks or shorts. Any color or pattern is permissible. No denim jeans or gym shorts are allowed. No earphones or hats are allowed. On Fridays, students may wear a Brophy t-shirt.

Approximately once a month, there is a Mass and Mass dress is required. If shadowing on a Mass day, a student must wear a long-sleeved dress shirt, tie, dress pants, dress shoes and a belt.
  • Q What do I bring with me on shadow day?

Please bring a book to read in case a teacher gives a test during class.

We will provide each shadow day guest a free lunch (up to $8.00).  Food service is provided in The Corral, our cafeteria, where students may purchase pizza, sandwiches, snacks and drinks. Students may choose to pack a lunch or bring additional cash to spend in The Corral.
  • Q What is Brophy's policy regarding cell phones?

Cell phones are allowed on campus; however, our guests must turn off their phones and place them in their backpacks until they have completed their shadow day. They may not be used in class, during lunch, or passing periods unless given permission by our faculty/staff. This will allow our guests to be fully aware of and engaged in their experience.
  • Q What if I need to cancel my visit?

Please call the Admissions Office at 602-264-5291, ext. 6233, as soon as possible and we will help you reschedule. We often have students on a waiting list for a shadow day, so we appreciate as much notice as possible.
