We plan to resume the Bronco-for-a-Day shadow program in the fall. Face masks are required for all visitors.
The Bronco-for-a-Day Shadow Program
The applicant accompanies his host through that day's schedule and becomes familiar with the campus and academic programs. It is also an opportunity to meet some of the students and faculty. Sign-ups for the Class of 2025 will begin online Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Shadow Days are typically Monday, Tuesday and Thursday beginning mid-September through early December. We have a handful of Shadow Days in January as well. There will be a limited number of Shadow Days on Wednesday (late start at 9 a.m.) or Friday (half day). We will accommodate six boys on campus each Shadow Day.
Face masks are required for all visitors to campus.
Guests of the “Bronco-for-a-Day” shadow program must be in eighth grade or above (transfer student applicants will be able to shadow the second semester). Shadowing is not a mandatory part of the application process, but it is a great opportunity to learn more about the Brophy community.
Starting August 25, you can sign up online by clicking on a calendar with available dates. You are required to fill out a short form providing information about your son - where he goes to school, his interests, and contact information. You will automatically receive an email confirmation.
Please check with your school for any conflicts with testing, field trips, sporting events, or other scheduled events before signing up for a specific Shadow Day.
We assign freshman shadow day hosts from our Diplomatic Corps based on interests (e.g. sports, music, activities, etc.) or middle school; or you can request a Brophy freshman you know. (All hosts are freshmen.)
7:45 a.m.–2 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays. Wednesday shadow days begin an hour later (8:40 a.m.) and Friday shadow days are 1/2 days from 7:45 a.m. - 12 noon.
The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. except late start Wednesday. Student guests should report to the Office of Admissions by the Eller Center for the Arts building at 7:45 a.m. At 2 p.m., your host will return you back to the Office of Admissions to complete a short evaluation. Please confirm with your son when you drop him off if you will meet him in our office or in the parking lot at the end of the day.
Parents, please park in the south parking lot. Contact the Office of Admissions if you would like a campus map.
Wear a collared shirt (polo, button down, etc.), and slacks or shorts with a belt. Any color or pattern is permissible. No denim jeans or gym shorts are allowed. No earphones or hats are allowed. Face masks are required for all visitors.
Approximately once a month, there is a mass day and mass dress is required. If shadowing on a mass day, a student must wear a long-sleeved dress shirt, tie, dress pants, dress shoes and a belt.
A sack lunch or lunch money. Food service is provided in Harper Great Hall where students may purchase pizza, sandwiches, snacks and drinks. Lunch costs vary, but approximately $6-$7 for lunch and break is sufficient. Visiting students must use cash to pay for lunch – debit cards are not accepted.
Also, please bring a book to read in case a teacher gives a test during class.
Cell phones are allowed, however, our guests should turn off their phones and place them in their backpacks until they have completed their shadow day. This will allow our guests to be fully aware of and engaged in their experience.
Please call the Admissions Office at 602-264-5291 ext. 6233 as soon as possible and we will help you reschedule. We often have students on a waiting list for a Bronco-for-a-Day Shadow Day, so we appreciate as much notice as possible.
