Lacrosse Defeats Mater Dei 16-15 in Historic Win

The Brophy lacrosse team trailed 13-8 entering the fourth period but scored eight times in the fourth period to record a 16-15 win over Mater Dei (Calif.) Saturday afternoon at the Graham Family Sports Campus.

“Mater Dei has been one of the best teams in Southern California,” said Head Coach Pat Harbeson. “They have a great coach and players and are a fantastic team. It is a staple victory for our program.”

Carter Barclay-White scored with 1:00 left to give Brophy the lead and the Broncos held on for the historic victory to improve to 7-0 on the season.

“The character our boys showed down five at one time to chip away was amazing,” said Harbeson. “Everyone on the team made a play to help us to win. Hopefully, it is something we can rely on as the season keeps going.”

It was the third goal for Barclay-White. Erik Volfson added three goals and three assists, while Connor Rassas had three goals and five ground balls. Deion James led the team with 10 ground balls and 16 face-off wins. Joshua Buse, Laird Miller, and Eli Friedman added two goals each. Ryan Peitzmeier recorded 10 saves in the net.

Brophy hosts Pinnacle on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The game is available on APN and the Brophy YouTube Livestream.
