Football Wins Region Game at Corona del Sol

Brophy posted a 28-21 victory over Corona del Sol to improve to 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in Central Region play. It was the second consecutive win for the Broncos and the third road victory of the season.

“I am happy we won and we were able to finish the game,” said Head Coach Jason Jewell. “Corona had a very potent attack and getting turnovers on defense was a big deal to keep them off the field.”

Brophy erased an early lead by the Padres to take a 21-7 lead at the half. Carlos Estrada scored from five yards out to tie the game and took the lead for good on the first of two Charlie McGinnis rushing touchdowns.

McGinnis went 22-for-27 on the game for 246 yards including a touchdown to Christian Camarata to build the 21-7 lead late in the second quarter. Camarata finished with a team-best five catches and 79 receiving yards. Jacob Buggie added four for 64 yards.

Brophy pushed the lead to 28-7 on MCGinnis’ second rushing touchdown. The Padres would rally for two touchdowns but two interceptions by Cree Thomas helped the team secure the win.

Estrada and Harrison Chambers each rushed for over 90 yards. Alex Salome (11) and Billy Eastep (10) each had double-digit tackles with Bastian Vanden Bosch adding nine.

Brophy travels to Mountain Pointe on Friday.
