Golfer Henry Dall to Sign with the University of San Diego

Brophy College Prep senior golfer Henry Dall will play golf and attend the University of San Diego next fall.

“I took my eighth-grade mission trip to San Diego and it was one of the schools we visited,” recalled Dall of his first time on campus, “We went to church on campus and I liked the area. They were one of the first schools to reach out.”

Dall will join a program coached by Chris Riley, a former PGA and Ryer Cup player who coached the Toreros to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances in his fifth season. USD continues to build off its 2020-21 NCAA Championship appearance.

“Coach Riley is someone I can learn a lot from,” said Dall. “I hope I can help them bring it back to the NCAA Championships.”

He will join former teammate Trevor Karbor ‘22 on the USD roster. “It will be cool to have Trevor on the team for three years,” said Dall.

Dall was a 2022 Arizona Republic All-Arizona first-team selection and All-Premier Region first-team choice after finishing fourth at the AIA State Championships as the Broncos took the team state title.

“The biggest highlight was winning the state title last year,” said Dall of his favorite moment. “I played state as a sophomore, did not play very well and we got smoked. To have the team come back and win big was a good feeling.”

Dall has continued to play well as a senior. He has been the medalist at two duals this season against The Benjamin School and Boulder Creek/Paradise Valley. He shot a seven-under-par 65 highlighted by a seven-hole streak to start the back nine to shoot a 65 in the first round of the Brophy Invitational. The stretch included an eagle and six birdies to lead after the first day. He finished fourth overall.

Henry is a team guy who has grown as a player each year,” said Head Coach Jon Shores.  “He's gotten better and better each year, as a player and a leader.  More important than the growth on the course, is growth off the course, as a young man.”

Dall also recorded a tie for fifth (69-74) at the Peaks Invitational, T11th at the Brophy Rodeo, and T11 at The Classic in the Palm Beaches High School Invitational in Florida

“Playing golf in college was always my top priority and a goal of mine. It is really cool that I achieved it with a great Division I school like the University of San Diego. I am excited.”

He notes a new short-game facility on campus as one of the many drawing points to the campus where he will study communications with a minor in business.

Dall joins classmate Tyler Spielman in committing to play golf in college.

“I have known Tyler since we were 7-8 years old,” said Dall. “We have been playing against each other our whole lives. It was cool when we both wanted to attend Brophy, got in and have played on the team for four years. To see each other grow on and off the course was been cool. We are hoping to end our careers with a win at state.”

The state championships are scheduled for Nov. 2-3 at Aguila Golf Course. Dall and Spielman will participate in the Brophy Sign Day Celebration on Nov. 8.
