Get to Know: Swimming's Fischer Whitehead

Fischer has been a four-year member of the Brophy swimming team. He qualified for the 100 breaststroke at the AIA Division I State meet in 2022. He was 17th overall in 1:02.18. He likes to rock climb and will be joining the National Art Honor Society. He has two siblings, Chance and Shafer. He is also an avid fly-fisherman.

When did you get involved in swimming?

“When I was little, I had really bad asthma. It was so bad I couldn’t breathe and I was in the ER constantly. They basically assigned swimming as a therapy. I was 7 or 8 at the time. My coaches told me I had the body type and seemed good enough to do club. I never stopped.”

What has it meant to you to be part of the Brophy team?

“It has meant family. Everywhere else and club, it is a grind. I have friends at the club but Brophy is a sense of love and care.”

What are your goals for the year?

“I want to win state.”

What did yu learn from your experience last year and qualifying?

“For me, I have to make state early and be fast off the block so I can practice and rest. For my team, I have to make sure they are in the pool. If you are not in the pool, you are not getting better.”

How is art a part of your life?

“Ever since I was younger, I was jealous of my older cousin. He was really good at art. I studied drawing and it got to the point I was drawing on everything. I want to get into a more organized and impactful art.”

What are your goals for college?

“I want to join an Honors College or high-standing college and make the most of the time I am there.”
