Physical Education Department Mission Statement

The mission of the Brophy College Preparatory Health and Physical Education Department is to promote the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health of our students. To accomplish this, our staff will:

    1. Instruct students to develop biomechanically correct and efficient movement patterns
    2. Endorse engaging in daily physical activity and consuming nutritionally sound food for life
    3. Convey an appreciation to God for the amazing gift of life
    4. Uphold sportsmanship and support the dignity of every human being
    5. Encourage students to make decisions for the greater glory of God
    6. Help students to see God in all things, including themselves
    7. Model healthy behavior

Chris White, Department Chair

Honors Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Medicine
Mr. White earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ithaca College and a Master of Science degree from the University of Arizona. Mr. White has been the athletic trainer at Brophy since 1986.

Joe Denk

Lifetime Fitness, Weight Training
Mr. Denk is a native of Ohio and an alumnus of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Dayton, he worked as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at a sports medicine facility in Englewood, Ohio. He teaches Weight Training and coordinates the strength and conditioning programs for all of Brophy's athletic teams.

Scott Heideman

Health
Coach Heideman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from ASU with an emphasis in Health and Physical Education. He has been a member of the Brophy faculty since 2007, and also coaches freshmen football and lacrosse.

Andrew "Scooter" Molander

Physical Education, Health
Mr. Molander earned a degree in Social Sciences from Colorado State University. He teaches Health in the Physical Education Department and U.S. Government in the Social Studies Department. Mr. Molander has been a member of the faculty at Brophy since 2001 and the head football coach since 2005.

Thurmond Moore

Weight Training
Mr. Moore comes to Brophy most recently from Chandler High School. He also spent time at Orange Lutheran High School in California. In addition to his high school experience, Mr. Moore brings a wealth of experience from his years coaching football at the collegiate and professional level. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State and teaches Weight Training, serves as a substitute teacher, and is a member of the varsity football staff.

Mike Schwertley ’99

Physical Education
Mr. Schwertley earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona. At the U of A, he was a member of the varsity football and basketball teams. For the last few years, Mike has been on campus often because of his involvement with the Brophy basketball program, most recently as the head JV coach. This year, Mr. Schwertley joins the faculty to teach Physical Education and to coach football and basketball.
