Get to Know: Football's #5 Billy Eastep

Billy Eastep is a two-sport standout for the Broncos and has been named one of the two season-long team captains for the program. He has recently committed to attend and play football at Yale University. He is interested in studying business.

How excited are you to start the season and get back on the field after missing last season?
“It felt like a long wait. It came quicker than I thought. I am excited to get out there.”

What did you learn from being on the sideline last year and watching?
“I learned to have patience and make the most of the opportunity. Even though I could not be on the field, I had to make the most of it.”

Tell us about your recruiting process and how you decided to pick Yale.
“I initially camped with Princeton and Yale and was in contact with their coaches during my sophomore year. When I was injured junior year, everything paused. With the start of spring practices, the Yale coaches were interested. I had a few more offers and took official visits to Yale and Princeton. It came down to the coaching staff and their trust in me from the start. The academics are incredible.”

What are the team and individual goals for the season?
“For the team, we have always talked about playing in December. It is always on our mind. For me personally, I want to be a better leader for the guys and more vocal.”

What is a fun fact about you?
“I like to buy and sell sports cards online.”

What is your best card?
“My best card is a Ronald Acuna rookie auto out of 25. I pulled it out of a box.”

How has the team improved during fall drills?
“I think the chemistry has improved. We have a lot of talent. Everyone is meshing together and we are playing as one team. I am looking forward to the season.”

Will you continue to play lacrosse and how does that sport fit in your sports world?
“I am playing lacrosse in the spring. It is a tight-knit group with all the guys. A lot of people ask me if I want to play in college. I have not thought about it. If the opportunity comes, I will take it.
