Get to Know: Lacrosse's #32 A.J. Pulawski

A.J. Pulawski has been playing lacrosse for seven years. He is on the varsity team for the second consecutive season after two years on the JV. He switched to goalie last year. He will attend the University of Alabama in the fall and study business management. He has been involved in the Big Brother program and the Brophy Gardening Club.

What do you enjoy about playing in the goal for the team?
“It is a huge leadership position on the team. My nickname on the team is Sarge from one of the seniors last year. He noticed from one of my first drills how commanding and loud I was in the goal. I tried to make sure everyone is on the same page. I like the pressure and having the last shot to keep us in the game.”

What is your role on the team and how do you impact the team?
“During practice, I try to step up as much as I can and get practice time. When I am in the net usually in the third or fourth quarter of the game, whatever defensive unit is in I am giving them high fives after we score and I try my best to keep everyone involved. Most of the time when I am in we are up by at least 10 points, I try to keep everyone focusing and engaged as a senior leader.”

What is the team looking forward to about the playoffs?
“We are looking forward to the chance to go to that championship again. We want to make it two in a row. We have some good competition but we are confident in ourselves. If we power through, we have these last guaranteed days and make sure we get the most out of it.”

What are you proud of about your participation in the Big Brothers program?
“My acceptance in the Big Brother program was a big one for me. I was proud to be given that leadership opportunity on campus and get more involved.”

What is a fun fact about you?
“I will eat anything if it has peanut butter on it.”

What do you enjoy about the Gardening Club?
“I am one of the student leaders for the club. I send out weekly reminders about a harvest or putting down fertilizer.  The garden is located outside Piper between the Great Hall and the baseball field. The vegetable garden includes tomatoes, kale, basil and pepper, and eggplant plants that have stood the test of time.”
