Track & Field’s Hensley Wins Javelin State Title

Brophy freshman Hudson Hensley saved his best for last with a throw of 191-5 to win the AIA State javelin title and pace the Broncos to an 18th-place finish with 16 points in the final event of the season at Mesa Community College.

“What I am most proud about is that he is a hard worker and coachable, but what you don't see is what a good teammate he is,” said assistant coach Ian Aston. “He cares about how the rest of the team is doing. You want to see him succeed, and he is an awesome human being. I am excited we get to be around him for three more years and the influence he will have on our culture.”

Hensley, who owns the second-best mark in school history in the event, was fourth in the competition entering his final throw. He ranks second in the nation among freshmen with a season best of 192-9 to place second at the AIA Division I Championships on May 7.

The Broncos also recorded a pair of sixth-place finishes in the event. The 4x800-meter relay of Diego Alejos, Colin St. Hilaire, Spencer Nick, and Benner Niemoth clocked a school-record 7:55.82 to finish sixth, while junior Garrett Larsen was sixth in the 400 meters in 48.26. Larsen was seventh in the event in 2025.

The 4x800-meter relay reset a mark set in 2011 by W. Firth, J. Rubenzer, T. McGehee, and T. Williams of 7:56.77.

High jumpers senior Tanner Bice and Henry O’Riley placed 18th and 21st, respectively, 6-0.
