Track and field senior jumper and sprinter Tanner Bice was committed to attending Wofford College this fall and competing for the Division I school in Spartanburg, S.C. The Terriers compete in the Southern Conference.
“It was a really long process and went later than I expected,” said Bice. “I was hoping to be committed before the season. But it worked out that I found a school I really love when Wofford came up as an opportunity with my improved numbers from the season. After I went on a visit, I loved the campus and coaches, so I committed.”
He will compete for Head Coach Johnny Bomar, who coached his fifteenth season at the helm of the Wofford College cross country and track and field programs in 2025-26. He has had eleven different student-athletes compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries.
Bice has been a three-year letterwinner for the Broncos and also played basketball during his career.
He is the school record holder in the triple jump at 45-3, resetting his own record this season at the Devon Allen Invite this season. He placed third at the AIA Division I meet on May 9 in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 6-6 to become the third-best performer in the event in school history. He also had a PR of 22-2 in winning the long jump at the Northeast Valley Championships.
“One of the beautiful privileges a coach experiences is the behind-the-scenes view of an athlete's journey,” said Assistant Coach Chris Ramsey, who lists Bice as the best triple threat jumper (HJ/LJ/TJ) in his 16 years coaching at Brophy. “We have front row seats to the pursuit of goals, the overcoming of setbacks, and the jubilant celebration when
it all clicks together beautifully. Tanner has grown not only as an athlete but as a leader and a young man. His efforts have lifted those around him, and his joyful grit inspired others to reach higher and jump farther. He will leave Brophy as one of the best jumpers in school history with a chance to cement his legacy at the State Meet.”
Bice has been named a Distinguished Student Award, a National Honor Society Member, an AP Scholar with Distinction Award, and the Most Improved Athlete in 2025. He capped his senior season by being named the program’s Most Valuable Athlete.
“Coming into Brophy, I was expecting to just be a basketball player,” recalled Bice. “I would have never thought I would have track as the main thing in my life. It is cool to see that this new opportunity arose. I feel I am new to track and field in my second full year, as my only sport. I feel I have a lot to grow and improve on with my jumps. I am looking forward to improving and getting better.”
He will complete his career this weekend at the AIA State Championships in the high jump.
