Golf Leads Division I State Championship After First Day
Junior Asher Nelson shot a six-under-par 66 to help Brophy post a season-best 272 to lead the AIA Division I State Championships by nine strokes after the first 18 holes at Aguila Golf Course.
Brophy leads Hamilton (281) and Perry (283) heading into the second round.
Nelson shot a front nine 30 via four birdies and an eagle on the eighth hole. He birdied the first two holes on the back to get to eight under. He is tied with Ethan Butters of Perry at 66. Sophomore Hank Miller posted a five-under-par 67 via a 34 front and 33 on the back nine, capped by a tap-in on 18.
All five players were under par for the Broncos, including Mateo Berastegui (7th, 69), Evan Tyree (T8th, 70), and Jack Langbein (T8th, 70).
Brophy is seeking its 11th state title in school history and its first repeat championship since 1993-94. A win would tie Arcadia and Thatcher for the most boys' titles in school history.
Brophy College Preparatory is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Alumni Awards, which will be presented during the Father–Son Communion Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 22.
