Football Takes Down Perry with Big Fourth Quarter

By Garrett Larsen ‘27

Brophy used a 28-point fourth quarter to defeat Perry, 45-27, on Friday night at Central High School.

The Broncos (2-1) struck early with a 29-yard touchdown from quarterback Case Vanden Bosch to senior Devin Fitzgerald and a 31-yard field goal from junior Jack Carson for a 10-0 lead. Perry answered late in the second quarter to cut it to 10-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Vanden Bosch broke free for a rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 17-7. Perry responded with a score but missed the extra point, cutting it to 17-13. The Pumas opened the fourth with another touchdown to take a 20-17 lead, but the Broncos dominated the rest of the way. Senior Jayson Kubica hauled in a touchdown, Fitzgerald added his second of the night, and Vanden Bosch powered in two more rushing scores to seal the win before Perry returned a late fumble for a touchdown.

Vanden Bosch finished with 251 total yards, including 157 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. Fitzgerald caught ten passes for 158 yards and two scores, and Kubica added a touchdown. On defense, senior James Pike led the way with eight tackles, while juniors John Michael and Ryder Noche each added six. Senior Joshua Finch-Logan made six stops with three tackles for loss.

“We weren’t really playing up to our standards in the first half,” Kubica said. “But after halftime, we came out, handled business, and really showed them what Brophy football’s about.”

Coach Jason Jewell praised the response. “Perry came back and took the lead, and we responded,” Jewell said. “Really just proud of the resiliency and the way we finished.”

Defensive lineman Joshua Finch Logan echoed the same message. “I think it was confidence. We didn’t come out with the confidence we needed, but in the second half we dominated as a team.”

Brophy (2-1) visits Hamilton next Friday at 7 p.m.
