Track and Field Finishes Seventh at Division I Meet

With two individual state champions, the Brophy track and field team finished seventh at the AIA Division I State Championships held at Red Mountain High School. Senior Nero Nuez highlighted Saturday’s action, winning the 110m hurdles in a personal-best 14.50, with teammates senior Darius Alberty in fourth and Will DeSpong in seventh.

Junior Rylan Umphrey won the long jump on Thursday with a final jump of 23-7.

Sophomore Garrett Larsen was fifth in the 400 meters in 50.13, and senior Santiago Sanchez crossed the finish line sixth in the 1600m. Junior Tanner Bice was 17th in the triple jump at 42-5.5, junior Andrew Montz was 12th at 142-8 in the discus. Other state championship participants in the javelin included junior Jeronimo Gomez (10th, 162-10) and sophomore Max Columbus (13th, 152-0). Junior Josiah Colburt was 17th in the 800 meters (2:01.26). 

The AIA Open State Championships begin on Friday at Mesa Community College.
