Lacrosse Wins Fourth Consecutive A.L.L. State Championship
The Brophy lacrosse team defeated Chandler 12-5 to win the Arizona Lacrosse League State Championship and their fourth consecutive and 10th overall state title at Desert Vista High School.
Junior Eli Friendman was named the offensive player of the game after scoring five goals and an assist with four ground balls. Sophomore Jack Grisoni dominated the faceoff circle with 16 in the game to help the Broncos overcome an early deficit.
Chandler led 2-1 after the first quarter as the Broncos settled into the game. But the game turned in the second quarter when the Broncos outshot Chandler 17-3 and scored seven unanswered to take an 8-2 halftime lead.
Senior Josh Buse scored all three goals in the first half, and Friedman found the net twice.
Brophy extended the lead to 9-2 before Chandler cut the deficit to five with two goals by Jace White. He finished with three goals, and Jack Brown had two in the loss.
Friedman scored three times in the fourth quarter to erase any chance of a comeback and seal the game for the Broncos. Senior Harrison Yu was named the defensive player of the game, Brophy goalie Ryan Peitzmeier had five saves, Maddax Ranley added two goals, and Tate LaCoss recorded two assists in the win.
Brophy became the first team in Arizona lacrosse history to win four straight titles (2022-25). Brophy finished the regular season with a 10-0 record in the state, won the Grand Canyon Conference title, and finished with a 17-7 overall record. They outscored their opponents 47-10 in three postseason games.
They also extended their winning streak in Arizona league regular and postseason play to 38 games, which began after a 12-9 loss to Chandler on Feb. 28, 2023.
