Columbus Finishes Ninth at State Decathlon Championships

Sophomore Max Columbus and senior Simon Root finished the State Decathlon Championship on Saturday. Columbus was ninth overall and the second-best sophomore in the field behind Troy Haymore of ALA-Queen Creek, while Root was 23rd. 

Columbus won the javelin and had personal bests in the pole vault and long jump en route to a personal best 5,356 points. Root has personal bests in the 100, 400, pole vault, and long jump in the event and finished with 4,032 points.
