Tennis Sweeps Perry to Advance to D1 State Championship

The No. 2 Brophy tennis team defeated No. 3 seed Perry 5-0 at Phoenix Tennis Center in the semifinals of the AIA Division I tennis Championships. The Broncos will play No. 1 Hamilton, who defeated No. 5 Arizona College Prep 6-0, at 2 p.m. on Friday at Paseo Racquet Center. 

Senior Ryan Zerbib opened with a 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Brendan Linstrom recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4, and sophomore Layton Fincham was a straight-set winner (6-4, 6-3) in his first postseason action. Seniors Logan Phillips and Tyler Wood won their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. 

Brophy is the defending state champion and will play in its eighth consecutive finals (2020 CoSID season excluded) from 2017 to 25. The Broncos have won a state record 23 state championships in school history. 

The Broncos improved to 20-4 and 16-2 in Arizona.
