Rocket Schwertley had a team-high 20 points to help No. 8 Brophy advance to the AIA Open second round with a 72-59 win over No. 25 ALA-Queen Creek, hosting No. 9 Mesa on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Robson Gymnasium.
The game was tied at 30 at the half, but Brophy took a 53-49 lead into the fourth as the teams exchanged the lead six times and had five ties in the third period. The Broncos outscored the Patriots 19-10 in the fourth quarter.
Hale Hansen had 16 points, Daylen Sharper had 14 points and five assists, and Oliver Burbach scored 12 points and recorded five steals.
Mesa advanced with a 70-66 win over Saguaro. Brophy won its Open bracket first-round game for the fourth consecutive season.
