Baseball Continues Hot Start with Win at Casteel

Senior Ronan O’Brien threw 6.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts to improve to 2-0, as Brophy defeated Casteel 5-2. Senior Ryan Fesperman and junior Dre Ethier had two hits, and Nico Lara added two RBI on a pinch-hit double in the seventh.

Brophy took a 2-0 lead in the first via a Fesperman double to score Ethier, who reached with a two-out single, and a Casteel balk. The Colts got a run on the bottom of the inning to pull within one. Brophy (7-0) added a run in the second on catcher Jonah Castle’s RBI single in the second.

O’Brien held Casteel in check over the next five innings with just three hits. After getting the first two outs in the seventh, the Colts rallied with a single and a walk off O’Brien. Borchard entered and walked the first batter he faced, and threw a wild pitch to score one, but got the final out via a groundout.

Brophy is 7-0 for the first time since 2015, when they started 8-0. O'Brien is now 2-0 on the season with a 1.20 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Dre Ethier is hitting .480 with five multi-hit games and has hit safely in all seven games. Isaac Holder is batting .471 and has hit safely in six of seven.

Brophy hosts Chandler on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
