Loyola Project (sophomore service) - We begin the Loyola Project's 26th year of serving young people from our partner schools and agencies that rely on Brophy students for tutoring and companionship in their education. Sophomores who are in Fall LP already should have been in contact with Mr. Rutt and already have attended an informational meeting this week. FALL LP training is on Wednesday, August 24, 3:00-4:00 p.m. in Harper Great Hall. Attendance is mandatory.

  • T-Th LP starts Thursday, September 1
Ignatian Encounter (junior service) - On August 18, the OFJ held a mandatory orientation for all juniors registered for Fall Ignatian Encounter. If your son is registered for Fall IE and did not attend this meeting he must contact Mr. Rutt, immediately to make sure he gets all of the relevant information. The Ignatian Encounter Volunteer Fair is at lunch on Thursday, August 25 in the Harper Great Hall. Contracts for Fall IE are due to Mr. Rutt by September 2.
 
Freshman Breakaways (frosh service) - Freshmen have been contacted if they have been assigned a first-semester Breakaway. This is a required service learning day. Mr. Medici and Mr. Munhall will put together Breakaway groups as they travel to the Human Services Campus or Desert Mission to serve. A Breakaway day begins at 8:00 a.m. and students return at 4:30 p.m.
 
Welcoming our OFJ Alumni Service Corps Faculty – It is great to have Matt Munhall, Flavio Bravo, and John Medici (all from the Brophy Class of 2012) with us in the OFJ this year to help students engage in some of our most important and longest-running programs!
 
Communion Minister Training - Deacon Stickney will be conducting training sessions for students to become Communion Ministers on August 29-30, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Both sessions are needed for training. You must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic to sign up. See Mrs. Hornbeck in the Office of Faith and Justice for details.
 
Immersion Trip Information Meeting - Let's go! – Tuesday, August 30, the OFJ hosts this critical information session for parents from 7:15-8:00 a.m. in the Harper Great Hall. Students will have a similar opportunity later that day at lunch. The immersion sign-up link goes live that day and fall immersion trip applications are due Friday, September 9. It's a good idea to get passport applications in now! See the new Brophy website for a list and timing of our many immersion and exchange experiences.
 
Mass of the Holy Spirit - "Walk by the Spirit" - Friday, August 26, we welcome Fr. Matt Ruhl, S.J. to our campus to celebrate with the faculty, students, and our Jesuit community this powerful tradition of Jesuit education. Fr. Ruhl comes to us from his ministry at St. Martin de Porres parish in Belize. Come, Holy Spirit!
 
Freshman Retreat - "Through Him, With Him, In Him" – Saturday - Sunday, September 17-18 - Freshmen and their parents alike will welcome this mandatory event that furthers their initiation into the Brophy community. The experience begins Saturday, September 17 at 8:45 a.m. at Brophy. All frosh families are welcome to attend the closing retreat Mass on Sunday, September 18 in the Robson Gymnasium at 9:30 a.m.
 
Important Sign-Up! Experience the Kino Border Initiative -September 9 is the FIRST immersion experience of the year and it is OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS, IT'S FREE, and is a DAY TRIP to the Kino Border Initiative in Nogales, Mexico. Contact Mr. Bravo ASAP to join this first KBI trip. You must have a current passport.
 
Magis and Kairos Retreats – The OFJ is accepting online applications for Magis and Kairos Retreats. Every student should go on a retreat! Retreats include prayer, reflection, activities, and enjoyment of Brophy brotherhood. Find the links on the Student/Parent resource page in myBrophy. See Mrs. Agliano.
