The Brophy wrestling team took fifth place at the Eagle Invitational, hosted by Ironwood High School. The field included Ironwood, Mountain View, Marana, Westwood, and Sunrise Mountain. The Broncos had four placers, led by champions Adam Angulo at 150 and Jack Sweetman at 215. Tanner Dryer was second at 138, and Landon Jurek was third at 190.
“We had an up-and-down tournament. I am proud of my guys. They competed hard the past two days, and we know what we need to hone before sectionals and states,” said head coach Wayne Catan. “Angulo looked dynamite, tech falling an all-state opponent from Thunderbird in the finals. Similarly, Jackson Sweetman had a great two days, pinning every opponent in the first period.”
