Golf Finishes Second at Brophy Rodeo presented by PING

The Brophy College Prep golf team finished second at the Brophy Rodeo National High School Golf tournament on Saturday at Grayhawk Golf Club. The Broncos posted a four-over-par score of 580 (288-292), with three players placing among the top 15, led by junior Asher Nelson.

Nelson earned his fourth-place finish with rounds of 71 and 69, the only Bronco to post under par in both rounds and one of four players in the tournament. Seniors Jack Langbein and Mateo Berastegui tied for 12th at 145. Langbein carded rounds of two-under-par 70 and 75, while Bestegui shot one-under-par 71 in the opener and 74 on Saturday.

Notre Dame Prep won the team title at 565 to win by 15 strokes. Corner Canyon (Utah) was third overall at 582, and Catalina Foothills in Tucson was fourth at 592. The Falcons produced the individual champion, Chase Cesarek. He shot a tournament-best eight-under-par 64 on Saturday, winning the event for the second consecutive season, in a playoff over Landopn Ashcraft of Notre Dame Prep.

Punahou (Hawaii) won the girls' title, and Julia Herzberg of Casteel took the individual title.

Sophomore Hank Miller was 29th overall after shooting 76-74. Seniopr Brennan Wiscombe was 41st overall (76-79). Senior Jack Abraham led three individuals for the Broncos in 22nd (74-74). Senior Matthew Polachek (87-75) was 58th, and senior Adone Panatonni (87-78) was 69th.

Brophy returns to action on Sept. 2 against Vista Grande, Millennium, and Sunnyslope.
