Football’s Harrison Chambers to Sign with Colorado Mesa

Brophy senior running back Harrison Chambers has committed to play for and attend Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. The Mavericks play in the NCAA Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

“It has been a long journey that started back in May at our Spring Showcase,” said Chambers. “Coach Hughes was watching me there and saw my athletic ability. He was the first coach to notice me and see the potential. Seeing me in person meant a lot to me, and he took a chance on me.”

Chambers will play for Hunter Hughes, the team’s Associate Head Coach, and Head Coach Miles Kochevar.

“It means a lot to me,” said Chambers about playing collegiate football. “I am looking forward to bringing Colorado Mesa a RMAC Championship. They have not won one since 2016, and I am bringing my work ethic and abilities to the school.”

Chambers was a three-time All-Central Region second-team selection, rushing for 2,228 yards over three seasons with 24 touchdowns. He finished his career ranked sixth in school history in rushing yards and was the seventh player in school history with 2,000 rushing yards.

“It's hard to believe how fast six years have gone by,” said Head Coach Jason Jewell. “Harry has been coming to Brophy football camps since he was in middle school, and if you knew him then, it wouldn't surprise you how successful Harry was for us as a varsity player. Harry cares. Harry works. He worked himself into a three-year varsity starter, a three-time all-region player, and into the Top 10 in rushing in Brophy history. If I were a betting man, he would do the exact same thing at Colorado Mesa.”

Chambers is excited to join the Grand Junction, Colo., community.

“It was not just the football program; it felt like the community was really involved,” said Chambers about his attraction to the school. “Grand Junction is supportive of the program, and it is cool to see a city really love a football program. It is going to give the football program all its support.”

Chambers plans to study Exercise Science and maybe kinesiology or business. After being part of the best three-year stretch in school history, which culminated in the first Open Division berth and Open playoff win, Chambers played a big part in the program's success.

“I will look at the hard work I have put in with my teammates, the discipline I brought to my teammates, and the effect it had on the whole team,” recalled Chambers. “I never imagined I would do anything like that in my career - rush for 2,000 yards. It is a huge accomplishment, and I was proud of myself.”

Chambers will join Blake Sweetman, who has committed to Benedictine (Kans.), and Josh Finch Logan, who will sign with Western New Mexico, at the Brophy Football College Commitment Celebration on Feb. 4. Overall, eight Brophy players will continue playing college football in the fall after graduation.
