Brophy senior defensive lineman Josh Finch-Logan committed to the Western New Mexico University football staff to play and attend school next fall. The Mustangs are an NCAA Division II institution in Silver City, New Mexico, that competes in the Lone Star Conference.
“The coaching staff wants to develop me as a player and off the field in the classroom,” said Finch-Logan. “This is something I looked for in my recruitment process, and it made sense to go somewhere so close to home. I'm very excited to make the next step in my future.”
Finch-Logan will play for Head Coach Billy Hickman and Defensive Coordinator Bryce Dempsey.
“It’s been a dream of mine, and I want this to be a big chapter in my story,” said Finch-Logan.
He was ranked No. 97 among seniors in the Arizona Republic Big 150 (March 2025), posting a big senior season that earned him Central Region Defensive Player of the Year and 6A Conference All-State second-team honors. Finch-Logan recorded 53 tackles (41 solo) with 10.0 tackles for loss (2nd best on the team), six hurries, and a team-best 4.5 sacks.
“Brophy has been blessed in recent years, stringing together a stretch with some fantastic defensive linemen,” said Head Coach Jason Jewell. “Josh was next up. A three-year varsity starter, a two-time all-region player, and Josh capped off a great career by being named the Central Region Defensive Player of the Year. Josh was dominant as a senior, nearly unblockable one-on-one. A slew of college offers followed, and after taking multiple visits, Josh is staying nearby and signing with Western New Mexico. With continued hard work, Josh will have a chance to contribute early there.”
He was a three-year letterwinner on the wrestling team and placed third overall in the state as a sophomore.
“I enjoy every aspect of wrestling,” said Finch-Logan. “I enjoy the practice and hanging with the guys. My goal is to win the state title.”
He helped lead the football team to the first Open Division playoff berth and first Open win in school history on the gridiron.
“My biggest takeaway was confidence,” said Finch-Logan about his senior season. “It was something I lacked in years before. I was a team leader and the oldest on the defensive line. It was good to lead the other guys. It was great to be recognized for all the work I have put in. It made me feel more fulfilled for the hours I put into football.”
Finch-Logan will join Blake Sweetman, who has committed to Benedictine (Kans.), and Harrison Chambers, who will sign with Colorado Mesa, at the Brophy Football College Commitment Celebration on Feb. 4. Overall, eight Brophy players will continue playing college football in the fall after graduation.
