Wrestling’s Angulo Wins Liberty Open Title at 157

Brophy senior Adam Angulo went 9-0 en route to winning the Liberty Open title at 157 pounds, and juniors Landon Jurek and Parker Mickelson both earned fourth-place finishes Saturday.
 
"Our young guys were thrown into the fire,” said Head Coach Wayne Catan. “This is a tough tournament featuring the number-1 team in the state and several out-of-state teams. Corrales Rojas and Rocco Saia were impressive, and Adam looked sharp as ever. And Parker is a very exciting wrestler to watch. I am proud of all of our guys." 
 
Angulo defeated Aiden Caro of Rancho Bernardo (Calif.) by pin in the semifinals. He defeated Atticus Draper in the finals by forfeit for first place. Angulo defeated Forrester by tech fall (15 points) on day one of the tournament.  Overall, Angulo went 9-0 during the two-day tournament. 
 
Jurek was fourth overall at 190, posting six wins during the two days, falling to Logan Whitacre of Kofa in the semi-finals. 
 
Mickelson, who also placed fourth at 150 pounds, upset the runner-up by pin in team play. He pinned Matthew Collins of Liberty during our dual. Overall, he had four wins over the two-day tournament. 
 
Newcomers Rocco Saia had two wins at 165, and Jesus Corrales had two wins at 132.
