Brophy senior Deshawn Krein has committed to play football and attend Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. The Bobcats play in the Division I Big Sky Conference.
“I chose Montana State because of the culture and the position coaches,” said Krein. “The program is run well, and they have a good culture. The program likes to play tough; they say they are the toughest in the conference.”
Montana State played in the Football Championship Subdivision title game last year and has won three of the last four conference championships. They host Yale in the FCS playoffs on Dec. 6.
He will play for Head Coach Brent Vigen, who has had great success at MSU since taking over in 2021. He became Montana State’s fourth national coach of the year in 2024, the first to win the Eddie Robinson Award. He owns three seasons of at least 12 wins. He is the program’s only coach to lead MSU to four straight post-season appearances and two national championship games.
Krein was an All-Central Region second team selection in 2025. He ranked seventh on the team and second amongst defensive backs in tackles with 46, and recorded an interception against Shadow Ridge. He was also tied for second in pass defended with four on the season.
“It's actually pretty incredible what Deshawn has been able to accomplish in his three years at Brophy,” said Head Coach Jason Jewell. “He transferred here and bought into playing cornerback, a position he had never played before, and excelled, starting 25 games in our secondary and making all-region two times. A rare combination of size and speed, Deshawn clocked the fastest 40 we have ever timed last Spring, a laser-timed 4.41. The vision became reality last Spring, when multiple schools offered Deshawn scholarships before he ultimately chose to attend Montana State, one of the best and most winning schools in the country. He is going to cause Big Sky wide receivers fits in his time in Bozeman.
Krein is excited about extending his playing career at the collegiate level.
“It means another stop to my goal of playing in the NFL,” said Krein. “I've been dreaming of it for a long time. And I'll be the first person on either side of my family to do it.”
Krein will participate in the Football Collegiate Commitment Ceremony on Dec. 3.
