Football Wins First Even Open Division Playoff Game

The Brophy football team outlasted the Colts in an exciting first-round game with a 51-42 victory in the AIA Open Division first-round action. Quarterback Case Vanden Bosch accounted for seven touchdowns (3 rushing, 4 passing), throwing two to Daylen Sharper and touchdowns to Devin Fitzgerald and Donovan McNabb, Jr. in the win.

Brophy (7-4) and Casteel were tied at the half at 21. Vanden Bosch scored twice and connected with Daylen Sharper to keep pace in the first half. The Colts then ran back their second kickoff of the game to start the second half for a brief lead, but the Broncos responded with the third rushing score by Vanden Bosch and a scoring play to Donovan McNabb. Brophy converted two-point plays after each to create some separation at 44-35 entering the fourth.

Casteel pulled within 44-42, but the fourth passing touchdown of the game and second to Sharper with 7:22 was the final difference.

Vanden Bosch rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 284 yards and four touchdowns. Sharper had a team-best seven catches for 106 and two scores, while Fitzgerald grabbed six for 110 and a touchdown.
