Brophy Lacrosse families,
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our fall meeting this past Tuesday. It was nice to see familiar faces and new faces alike. You can find my full set of presentation slides here, but I wanted to take this opportunity to distill some of the important logistical pieces of our meeting for everyone.
Fall Registration documents need to be submitted to me - in my office in the Innovation Commons - as soon as possible. Among other things, we rely on these as a predictor of player numbers for the spring, which helps with planning purposes.
The $50 registration/tryout fee is due to the business office. Please make checks out to Brophy Lacrosse. These registration fees allow us to make purchases of equipment (balls, nets, team gloves, etc.) which need to be ordered well in advance.
Tryouts will begin the week of January 30th for varsity only, and the following week for JV. I expect team fees to be $750 for JV and $875 for varsity (this extra cost covers team gloves, among other things). These fees will be collected once team rosters have been set.
We are an Under Armour sponsored program. As part of our agreement, all varsity players must be in UA cleats during the season. To this end, they extend a 30% discount on team cleats. I am awaiting finalization of our cleat website, and will pass that along as soon as it goes live.
If you have a Twitter account, follow @brophylax for lacrosse-related information. Emails will continue to be the official communication method for information specific to our club.
Mark Haak and Jason Donkersley have started a support club for Brophy Lacrosse (termed "Friends of Brophy Lacrosse"). Among other things, they will help me organize off-field logistics such as coordinating volunteers, senior night, organizing team dinners, planning out of state travel, etc. If you would like to get involved with this, please contact them: jd@berryriddell.com and mark.haak@voya.com
JV and Varsity teams will practice 5-7:00 pm M-Th, 3:30-5:30pm on Fridays, and in the morning on Saturdays (varsity only). These times may shift from week to week depending on track's schedule, but we will email the next week's schedule out during the previous week.
We will continue to have mandatory weights and conditioning through the beginning of December, and will look to continue our Thursday 3x sessions through October.
Players will have no alumni game responsibilities this fall. Both teams will be off during Presidents Day weekend (Friday-Monday). JV will have the entirety of spring break off. Varsity will be off Friday-Monday over the Easter weekend. The varsity team will practice on Tuesday evening (4/3), with an out-of-state game scheduled on Wednesday. Please take advantage of these days off, but given our advanced planning, we expect players to attend scheduled practices around the holidays
We are looking for families who would be willing to host players from Lawrenceville (NJ) when they come out March 3-7. Host family responsibilities are minimal - picking up players at Brophy when they arrive, providing them a place to sleep at night, and dropping them off prior to departure. The Lawrenceville coaches have assured me they have even made changes to the process that will make it even more hassle-free than in previous years. Please email me if you would be willing to host a few players: zwidbin@brophyprep.org.
Lastly, I want you to know that I am always willing to discuss questions or concerns that you have. I respect your duty to look out for your son's best interest, and I know you respect my duty to look out for his interests while also looking out for the team's best interest. Per Brophy's athletic department policy--and as a growth opportunity for your son--the first conversation should be between myself and your son.
This is obviously a lot of information. Know that I appreciate your attention. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
