Welcome to the 2017-18 Brophy Lacrosse season! I hope this note finds everyone well, settled into the new academic year, and enjoying the last hours of the Labor Day weekend.
This year brings a great deal of change, as this past summer Coach Beau Pich decided that he will not return this year. Coach Pich oversaw 9 seasons during which Brophy Lacrosse significantly evolved, grew, and developed a national footprint in the high school lacrosse world. I am grateful for the time I have spent learning from him over the past several years, and know you will join me in thanking him and wishing him well.
I am honored to have been chosen as the next head coach of this program, and look forward to developing the program further. You can read Brophy's press release at the following link: https://www.brophyprep.org/page/news-detail?pk=895336&fromId=205190. Over the past several weeks I have come to appreciate just how many moving parts there are which make this program run, and look forward to working with you this year, as I learn on the fly.
With every new year, there is a great deal of information to communicate both now and over the coming months, so please continue to be on the lookout for additional emails, as that will be the main avenue of communication for now. I will also be posting these emails on the lacrosse page at www.brophyprep.org.
In the meantime, below is a series of important notes and events to put on your calendars.
Fall schedule, news, and events:
Weight training for all prospective players starts Tuesday 9/5. It runs every Tuesday and Thursday, 3-4pm, in "The Dutch."Note the earlier time compared to previous years. It is expected that all players attend, unless they are currently in-season for another sport.
New this year: starting Thursday 9/14 at 4pm (following weights), we will host weekly open gym sessions for a
ll interested players and prospective players. These sessions will initially be held in "The Dutch" gym. These sessions will offer wall-ball and 3x games. Sticks, helmet, and gloves are required (we will have this gear available for use, so encourage those you know to check it out, regardless of experience).
Our mandatory fall meeting is set for Tuesday, October 3, 6:00pm in the Great Hall. I will take this time to offer my thoughts on the upcoming season, program guiding principles, and our areas of need for the coming year. We will also begin collection of player registration forms/fee ($50). Payment of these fees allows us to begin purchasing needed supplies for the spring season, and helps us plan for the number of players who will be out for the team in the spring.
Speaking of registration forms, you can access those forms here. They can be turned in at our fall meeting on October 3rd, or you can turn them in to my mailbox at school (or have your son drop them off with me in my office in the Innovation Commons).
If you know of anyone at Brophy who has not previously played for the club, please forward this email (and link to the New Player Interest Form) to them. Whether they are just new to Brophy, or an upperclassman new to the sport of lacrosse, we would love to get in touch with them.
Spring schedule and events:
Varsity tryouts will begin the last week in January (tentative for Monday, January 29). As always, all sophomores and older should plan to try out for the varsity team.
The JV season/tryout will begin during the week of spring sports.
Thank you for reading to this point! If you have any questions, or would simply like to introduce yourself, please feel free to email me at zwidbin@brophyprep.org.
