Basketball’s Hale Hansen Commits to Montana State University

Senior Hale Hansen has committed to play basketball at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. The Bobcats compete in the NCAA Division I Big Sky Conference.

“I chose Montana State because I felt I had a connection with the coaches,” said Hansen. “Bozeman and the surrounding area were really nice and seemed like a place I would want to live in. They are a winning program that wins the Big Sky almost every year and advances to the NCAA Tournament. I want to play in the NCAA Tournament. It is an excellent opportunity to show my abilities.”

Hansen will play for Head Coach Matt Logie, who enters his third year at the helm in Bozeman. In 2023-24, Logie was named a finalist for the Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year, which is presented annually to the top rookie, first-year head coach in Division I college basketball, after orchestrating the Bobcats' third straight Big Sky championship title and third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

“Coach Logie can help me get to the next level,” said Hansen. “They focus on player development and showed me what mine would look like. They said I have a lot of things that young players have, including my skills. The sky is the limit for me, and what they see for me as a player.”

Hansen came to Brophy as a sophomore from Texas. He averaged 5.3 points per game as a reserve in his first season and was sidelined with an injury during his junior season. After a breakout summer, he is poised for a big senior season.

“At first, it was stressful because I questioned whether I would be the same player as before the injury,” said Hansen, who considered six offers. “I questioned, ‘Will I still be springy, athletic, and quick? At the NAU tournament this summer, it sparked in my head that I was still the player who could achieve my goals. I was very motivated and ready to work.”

In the final game at the Section 7 event in June 2025, he led Brophy with 21 points against Archbishop Riordan. Head coach Matt Hooten is excited for his upcoming season.

“Hale made an immediate impact on the varsity basketball team with his defensive intensity and elite shooting ability when he arrived from Texas,” said Head Coach Matt Hooten.  “As he entered his junior year, he was poised for a strong season, but an injury kept him sidelined for three months. Throughout that time, his focus never wavered. He remained fully engaged with his teammates—shouting encouragement from the bench, leading team cheers while pounding his crutches on the floor, and continuing to embody the spirit of a true Man for Others.  In the summer of 2025, Hale returned to the court with determination and purpose, averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds per game.  His performance set the tone for what promises to be a terrific senior season.  We are thrilled that Hale will continue both his academic and athletic journey at Montana State University next year. On the court, the Bobcats are gaining a relentless competitor with tremendous offensive and defensive versatility. Even more impressive, however, is the high-character young man who will soon join their community.  Congratulations to Hale and his family!

“It is great to be healthy,” said Hansen. “There is no better feeling coming off an injury. It is my last year, and I have a lot to prove individually. To spend one last season with my guys is a dream. It is going to be fun.”
