Doubles Pairs Advance to Quarterfinals, Woo to Quarters in Singles

Junior Tyler Woo advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals in the AIA Division I Singles Championships, upsetting the No. 5 seed Matthew Tenn, Liberty, 6-4, 6-0 in the first round. He won his second-round match over Sabian Reynoso, Millennium, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6. Sophomore Alex Bunkse was also a first-round winner with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Nicholas Barnetche of Desert Mountain 7-5, 6-4.
Brophy’s Ryan Zerbib/Kentaro Akiyoshi are the No. 1 seed in doubles, defeating Porter Anderson and Isaac Burt from Basha 6-0, 6-0 in the first round. They advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Basha/Russell from Basha.
The No. 2 seed is Logan Phillips/Naren Gudavalli. They defeated Heston Hammond and Brandon Bednar from Dobson, 6-0, 6-0, and Berg/Gagnon of Queen Creek 6-0, 6-2 in the second round.
