Brophy to Host MLK Diocesan Mass with Bishop John Dolan

On Saturday, Jan. 13, the Diocese of Phoenix and the Phoenix Catholic community will celebrate its annual MLK Mass at Brophy with Bishop John Dolan presiding. The morning will include student awards for racial reconciliation projects.

Previously organized by the Diocese of Phoenix Black Catholic Ministry Office, this year, the newly established parish (2022) of St. Josephine Bakhita will take over the facilitator role.

From Fr. Andrew McNair, the pastor of St. Josephine Bakhita and the director of the Diocese's Black Campus Ministry (via the Catholic Sun), “It’s not just a Black celebration or for Black people, it’s a celebration of the human person and his or her innate rights that come from God. When we don’t recognize the dignity of the human person in all its stages, then we’re infringing on the fundamental rights of the human person. If we can learn to acknowledge our humanity and celebrate our humanity — that we are created in the likeness and image of God — it will create a whole different dynamic in human relationships entirely.”

The Martin Luther King Jr. official holiday is Monday, Jan. 15. For more information read the article from the Catholic Sun.
