Basketball Wins Opener at Father Barry Christmas Classic

Junior Luke Wieskamp scored a game-high 17 points to help Brophy post a first-round win 63-45 over Bellarmine Prep (San Jose, Calif.) at the 49th Annual Father Barry Christmas Classic hosted by Jesuit High School in Sacramento, Calif.

Brophy (4-0) plays St. Mary’s out of Stockton, Calif in one of two semifinals on Friday. St. Mary’s won its opener over host Jesuit 63-56. Friday's semifinal game against St Mary’s (Stockton, Calif.) can be seen on Norcal Sports TV on YouTube at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. in Arizona)

The Broncos trailed 16-14 after eight minutes despite six points by Rocket Schwertley. Senior Braeden Speed scored nine points in the second as the team built a seven-point halftime lead. Wieskamp added seven of his 17 points in the third quarter as Brophy extended the lead to double digits. 

Speed finished with 15 points in the game, while Ryan Burbach added nine points. Schwertley and Daylen Sharper each added six in the win.
