Cross Country Finishes Ninth at AIA Division I State Meet

The Brophy cross country team finished ninth overall at the AIA Division I State Championship meet at Cave Creek Golf Course. The Broncos scored 280 points and placed three in the top 40 among their top five.

“It was a fantastic rebound from our group,” said Head Coach Oscar Borboa ‘05. “It was not our best effort at the Southwest Sectional last week. But credit to our team leaders seniors Jack Kyle and Konoby Hetman spearheaded by Santiago Sanchez kept the team together. We were focused and ran out our best team race of the season.”

Junior Santiago Sanchez paced the team with a ninth-place finish in 16:16 to earn a medal. Senior Jack Kyle crossed the line in 29th in 16:50 and senior Kenoby Hetman was 39th in 17:02. The top-five scoring runners included junior Ryan Rastad in 18:09 (114th) and freshman Diego Alejos in 18:05 (118th overall). The state team also included sophomores Mason Cavallo (28:09) and Lucas Vargas (18:15) The Broncos qualified last week by finishing sixth at the Southwest Sectional
