Bishop John Dolan to Celebrate Jesuit Presence in Phoenix

On Sunday, Sept. 17, Bishop John Dolan of the Diocese of Phoenix is inviting Catholics in the Phoenix area to celebrate the Jesuit presence in the community at 9 a.m. Mass at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral. Bishop Dolan will preside at the liturgy, which will also be concelebrated by a number of Jesuits, including Fr. Simon Zachary, S.J., Fr. Dan Nevares, S.J., Fr. Andrew Laguna, S.J., Fr. Eddie Ngô, S.J., Fr. Bob Fambrini, S.J., and others.

After Mass, there will be a light breakfast reception in Smith Hall where several speakers will share thoughts about how the Jesuits and their unique spirituality have influenced their lives.

A Message from Bishop John Dolan...


Although Jesuits first arrived in Southern Arizona in the 1600s, they were expelled by Carlos III of Spain in the 1700s and did not return in permanence until the founding of Brophy in 1928. In 1959, St. Francis Xavier Parish became the only Jesuit parish in the Diocese of Phoenix.
