Alumni Drew Maggi '08 became the third player from Brophy College Preparatory to play Major League Baseball when he pinch-hit for the Pittsburgh Pirates in a game on April 26.
Maggi was selected in the 15th round (447th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft after playing at Arizona State University. He was originally selected in the 47th round (1,419th pick overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft out of Brophy.
He joins Justin Speier ‘91 (1998-2009) who played with seven teams including the Toronto Blue Jays, Colorado Rockies and Anaheim Angels, and Ryan Castellani ‘14 (2014-22) who played with Colorado Rockies and Oakland A’s.
A 2008 graduate of Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Ariz., he earned letters in baseball as well as football and was part of a team that went to the state title game and finished the season ranked No. 6 in the nation by Baseball America in 2007. He helped Brophy to a state championship on the gridiron in 2007.
