Volleyball Finishes Third at Brophy Invitational

The Brophy volleyball team advanced to the Brophy Invitational semifinals before falling 2-1 to eventual champion Perry, who defeated Sandra Day O’Connor in the final. Overall, the team was third in the two-day event and went a combined 6-4.

The Broncos opened the day on Saturday with a come-from-behind win over Mesa Mountain View 2-1 (22-25, 25-15, 15-12). They defeated Deer Valley (25-14, 25-20) and Servite (22-25, 25-18, 15-12) to set up the semi-final with Perry. The Broncos finished the day with a 2-1 loss to Sandra Day O’Connor.

Patrick and Connor Oldani were named to the BVIT All-Tournament team, while Mater Dei’s Cole Schobel was named the Most Outstanding Player. Perry defeated O’Connor in the championship match.

Brophy went 3-2 on the opening day in pool play. The Broncos defeated Chandler (2-0), Desert Vista (2-0), and Casteel (2-0), while losing to top seed Mater Dei (0-2) and O’Connor (2-0). The Monarchs were ranked No. 11 in the nation by MaxPreps.
