Basketball’s Speed Named All-Arizona, Joins Madi on All-Conference Team
Junior Braeden Speed was named to the Arizona Republic All-Arizona team on Sunday in an article released in the newspaper. He averaged a team-best 15.7 points per game while shooting 40 percent beyond the arc with 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
He was named one of the Arizona Republic's 12 Player of the Year finalists and to the All-Arizona high school boy's basketball team for the 2022-23 season. The top 12 players are both POY finalists and All-Arizona. Also listed are ''the best of the rest'' among top players. The overall player of the year will be announced at the 2023 Arizona High School Sports Awards show, produced in partnership with Diamond Kitchen and Bath.
Madi was among the Arizona Republic Best of the Rest. He averaged 15.7 points, 4.32 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
Both players were named to AIA 6A All-Conference first team along with Noah Peterson of Highland, Caden Hunter of Liberty, John Mattingly of Sunnyslope, Bryce Ford of Pinnacle. Perry’s Koa Peat was the Conference Player of the Year, Perry’s Cody Williams was the Offensive Player of the Year, and Perry’s Ben Egbo was the Defensive Player of the Year.
Brophy advanced to the AIA 6A State Championship game this season before losing to Highland. The Broncos also played in the first-ever Open Division Championship, earning a No. 6 seed.
