Soccer Falls 1-0 to No. 2 San Luis in AIA 6A State Semifinals
The Brophy College Prep soccer team had their state championship dreams end Tuesday in a 1-0 loss to No. 2 seed San Luis in the AIA 6A State Semifinals at Buckeye Union High School.
“I am really proud of these guys,” said Head Coach Marc Kelly. “They had lots of opportunities but it did not happen for us tonight. I am proud of their effort all throughout the year. They had an unbelievable season and one of my best seasons in terms of results and pushing ourselves through.”
The Sidewinders scored in the 20th minute of the first half and held on for the victory over the No. 3 seed Broncos. Brophy finishes the season at 17-2-2.
The Sidewinders stopped a Brophy penalty kick midway through the second half and the Broncos pushed for a score until the end. But Brophy was held scoreless for just the third time this season and the first time in a loss.
Brophy graduates 18 seniors from this team, including several who were on the team that won a state title in 2021 against San Luis. The Sidewinders will play No. 5 Perry in the state championship on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Dobson High School.
