Get to Know: #2 Braeden Speed

Braeden Speed is a three-year varsity player for the Broncos. He has three younger brothers including Kellen, who is a freshman and plans to run track. 
 
How is the season going?
“This season has been going pretty well. I am excited to be in the playoffs and finish the season out strong.”
 
What has it meant to you to be part of the Brophy basketball team?
“It has meant a lot. I have a lot of different teammates. I am playing with only two guys that were on varsity my freshman year (Arman Madi and Connor Fitzgerald). It has been really fun getting to know new people and get involved with stuff at Brophy.”
 
What are you looking forward to about Hoopcoming on Saturday?
“I am excited about playing Perry. Obviously, they beat us last year. We are really looking forward to it.”
 
What is the biggest responsibility of being the older brother to three siblings?
“The biggest responsibility is thinking through my decisions and how it going to affect them. I try to be a good role model for them.”
 
How have you developed your leadership skills as a three-year letter winner?
“I have learned from the people that led me during my freshman year like Desi Burrage. Patrick Chew and Miles Nash last year showed me how to lead. Since it is my third year now, I feel like I am a senior even though I am not.”
 
What do you see as your biggest strength on the basketball court?
“My biggest strength is my ability to be tough on both ends, my defense, as well as my ability to score and be physical.”
 
Your college decision is a year away but how has the recruitment process been?
“It has been interesting because of the transfer portal. It has been pretty good. I am looking at how different schools play.”

If you could live in a book, TV show, or movie, where would you live: Outer Banks. 
What animal best represents you: A lion.
What is your greatest achievement: Beating the No. 1 team in the country in eighth grade with Arizona Select. 
If you could time travel, would you go to the past or the future: Future.
What teacher has inspired you the most: Mr. Hendricks (7th-grade math)
What is your favorite holiday: Christmas.
If you won the lottery, what would you buy: A new car.
What’s your favorite dinner: Steak.
