Brophy swimming standout Finn Crawford has committed to attend and swim next fall at Boston College. He will officially sign with the school in April.
“I am excited about the opportunity to swim at the competitive Division I level and the academic experience I will get at Boston College,” said Crawford. “I am excited to go to Boston in general. It is an exciting city.”
Crawford, who plans to study political science, will take the pool for new coach Joe Brinkman. He is entering his first season as the head men’s and women’s swimming & diving head coach at Boston College. He arrives after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Notre Dame. During his time with the Irish, Brinkman helped guide 24 All-American honorees. Additionally, during that time, 40 ND swimmers advanced to the NCAA Championships and 39 school records were broken.
“The team looked super fun and I was in contact with several swimmers who were super nice to me,” said Crawford. “But I chose the swim team based on my academic goals. It was the perfect fit.”
Boston College competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
“As a student-athlete, he is bringing grit and leadership to Boston College. Nothing was handed to him and he has worked for everything he earned,” said Brophy Head Coach Daren Brubaker. “He has been a leader on the team since the day he stepped on campus.”
Crawford earned a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.58) and the 100-yard butterfly (50:57) at the 2022 AIA Division I State Championships and was part of two Brophy relays.
“He brings a diverse resume from the 50 free to 500 free with a broad span of types of speed,” said Brubaker. “He will be a great addition to their team.”
Crawford was part of two record-breaking swims during his senior season. He tied for first with classmate Gabe Gonda to win the 200-yard freestyle at the Brophy Invite, breaking the Reese Aquatic Center pool record with a tying time of 1:41.07. He was also part of the foursome of Gonda, Theodore Neilson, and Caden Oprandy in resetting the Reese Aquatic Center pool record in the 200-yard medley relay at the AMDG Invitational.
“The biggest thing I will remember was breaking the pool record with Gabe,” said Crawford of his favorite memory. “It was a fun moment.”
Crawford transferred to Brophy at the beginning of his junior season from the Arizona School for the Arts. He also swims for Gold Medal Swim Club out of Chandler.
“It has been a great experience,” said Crawford of his time at Brophy. “The school is like nothing else out there. I knew it was a place I wanted to be part of and experience.”
In addition to his time in the pool, he has been a member of the Modern Medicine Club, Physics Club and Red and White Club while at Brophy.
His immediate goal now is to work towards making his winter cuts and qualify for Summer Nationals in preparation for joining the BC team in the fall.
He will be part of the Brophy Signing Day Celebration on April 12.
