BANDON, Ore. - Rising senior Charlie Palmer took the lead on the first hole and never trailed with a 4 and 2 victory over No. 53 Mason Snyder on Thursday at the 74th U.S. Jr. Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Course.
Palmer won the first three holes with the aid of birdies on the first and third holes and a double bogey by Synder on the second. Both players won two holes over the next six holes as Palmer made the turn with a 3-up lead. Snyder won the 12th and 13th holes to cut the lead to one, but Palmer won three straight on 14-16 to clinch the match.
Palmer is back on the course this afternoon for a match with No. 37 Jeffrey Guan of Australia beginning at 1:51 p.m.
