Brophy Doubles Pair Wins AIA Division I State Title
Doubles partners senior Hadley Kukla and junior Andre Johnson won the AIA Division I Doubles Championship on May 1 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jeronimo Ledesma and Daniel Yuke of Desert Mountain. It was the second title for Kukla, who won in 2021, and the first for Johnson, who lost in the final last year. Team competition resumes on Wednesday against Chaparral at 3 p.m.
Brophy jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set before the team from Desert Mountain tried to get back in the set. They cut the lead to 4-3 before the Broncos closed it out. In the second set, Lesedma and Yuke took an early 2-1 lead but Brophy tied it at 2 and closed out the match by winning four of the next five games and five of the last six overall.
They are the 16th doubles team to win an AIA State Championship and the third consecutive, joining Jack and Hank Brown in 2022 and Kukla and Sean O’Gara in 2021.
Kukla joins a rare list of two-time double champions from Brophy including David Akin (2013, 2015), Adam Perez (2004, 2005), and Ridge Schmidt (1979, 1981).
The AIA Division I team championship continues on Wednesday with Brophy hosting Chaparral at Xavier College Prep at 3 p.m.
Brophy College Preparatory is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Alumni Awards, which will be presented during the Father–Son Communion Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 22. The annual gathering is one of Brophy’s most cherished traditions, bringing together generations of fathers and sons for a morning of faith, fellowship, and celebration of the Brophy brotherhood.
