The No. 2 seeded Brophy volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Perry (26-24, 25-23, 25-15) in the AIA 6A Conference semifinals to reach Saturday’s State Championship. The Broncos (43-3-2) will face top-seed O’Connor on Saturday at Skyline High School.
“It's great to coach this group and get into the finals,” said Oldani, who was coaching in his fourth consecutive state semifinals. “It is exciting for these guys and his group of seniors, but it was also nice to look up at the 8-12 alums from the three previous teams that haven’t made it, including the two previous Oldanis. It was fun for them to see what they had built come to fruition.”
Brophy is making its seventh state championship appearance in school history, the first since 2015 (6 - Brophy Prep: 1998 (4A/5A), 1999 (4A/5A), 2001 (4A/5A), 2006 (4A/5A Div. I), 2012 (Div. I), 2015 (Div. I). The Broncos have won three state titles in school history (3 - 1998 (4A/5A), 2001 (4A/5A), 2006 (4A/5A Div. I).
Brophy has won 17 consecutive games and 39 straight sets.
