Brophy Set for AIA Division I State Championships on Saturday
The Brophy cross country team will compete at the 2024 AIA Division I State championships on Saturday. The race will be at 9:45 a.m. at Cave Creek Golf Course.
Senior Santiago Sanchez was the top finisher for the Broncos at the sectional meet, placing second overall in 16:19. He helped Brophy place fourth overall to earn qualification for the state meet.
The top five last week included Lucas Horst in 25th (17:57), Evan Giesecke in 27th (18:00), Ryan Rastad in 30th in 18:08, and Diego Alejos in 35th (18:28).
Brophy has three runners with experience from 2023, including Sanchez, Rastad and Alejos. Sanchez paced the team with a ninth-place finish in 16:16 to earn a medal, while Rastad finished in 18:09 (114th) and then freshman Diego Alejos crossed in 18:05 (118th overall)
