Football Wins Home Finale 31-24 against Mountain Pointe
The Brophy football team defeated Mountain Pointe 31-24 to set up a game for the region title next week. Junior quarterback Case Vanden Bosch was 23-for-28 for 257 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown. Junior wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald had seven receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Ryder Noche provided the big play late with a 93-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter to hold off the Pride.
Brophy (8-1, 3-0) took a 7-0 lead when Harrison Chambers cashed a first-quarter drive.
Vande Bosch had a rushing score and connected with Fitzgerald to build a 21-7 lead at the half. Fitzgerald finished with a career-best seven catches to record his second career 100-yard game (101) aided by the 26-yard score.
The Pride cut the deficit to 21-14 in the third quarter. Ryder Hampton’s 26-yard field extended the lead to 24-14, and Noche’s kick return helped prevent a comeback by Mountain Pointe.
Brophy will play at Salpointe on Friday for the Central Region title for the second consecutive season. The Broncos won the title with a season-ending win over Salpointe, 14-12, to win the school's first region title since 2008.
