The Brophy cross country team competed in the Desert Twilight, the state’s largest meet, on Friday at Toka Stocks Golf Course. The Broncos finished 34th in the Sweepstakes race as senior Santiago Sanchez led the team in 16:28 to finish 110th overall. Sophomores Colin St. Hilaire (17:12, 192md), Diego Alejos (17:17, 201st), and Lucas Horst (17:21, 208th) finished with nine seconds of each other. Junior Josiah Colburt was the fifth finisher in 17:37 in 233rd.
The Broncos had 23 participants in the Large School Open 5K race, and three placed among the top 25. Sophomore Adam Shamoun was 10th in 18:49, junior Shane Smith was 21st (19:25), and Vincent Laba was 25th (19:32).
Freshman Benner Niemoth led the Broncos in the freshman race in 27th overall (10:15) over the 1.6-mile course.
The team will be off the week before returning to action at the Epic Tourneys Invitational on Oct. 11.
