The Brophy football team scored six times in the first half to cruise to a 51-10 win at Desert Vista, winning their Central Region opener. The Broncos improved to 6-1 on the season, winning their sixth consecutive road game dating to last season.
Junior quarterback Case Vanden Bosch went 13-for-13 for 170 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 115 yards on seven carries, including two scores.
Junior wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a 26-yard reception in the first quarter, recording his team-best sixth touchdown. Vanden Bosch added his first rushing score in the first for a 14-0 lead. Nassim Isaac had his first touchdown of the season in the second to extend the lead to 21-0. Brophy added three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter as quarterback Rylan Umphrey ran in from 9 yards, senior running back Carlos Estrada found the end zone, and Vanden Bosch added his second score for a 42-0 lead.
The Broncos finished with 253 yards rushing, and nine players had at least one catch, led by five for 78 yards by Fitzgerald. Umphrey finished 6-for-9 for 90 yards. Sophomore Greg Riddell led the team with ten tackles with a safety, while Kaden MacKenzie recorded eight.
Senior Gavin McGuire added a third-quarter 20-yard run for his first career touchdown.
