The Freshman Experience

Class of 2029, please mark your calendar for these campus events known as The Freshman Experience. They will provide an important introduction to school life and what it means to be Jesuit educated. Brophy Big Brothers will join faculty and administrators in leading these activities.

Freshman Orientation: Aug. 6 Freshmen are expected to be in the mall by 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, where they will be greeted by their Big Brothers who, along with their advisor, will shepherd them through rotations acclimating them to life on campus. They will end with a personal tour of their class schedule and be dismissed by noon. They will also receive their Macbooks and Brophy ties as part of their orientation. Please bring a backpack and a water bottle.

Freshmen/Big Brother Back-to-School Bash: Aug. 8 — What does the biggest inflatable water slide in the state have to do with the first day of school? Find out at the Back to School Bash for freshmen and their Big Brothers, taking place after school on Friday, Aug. 8.

New Student Convocation: Aug. 9 — All new students and their families will celebrate together in Harper Great Hall on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10-11:30 a.m. This is our first formal gathering with the Men of ’29, our transfer students and our new sixth-grade Loyola Academy Scholars. Parents and students are expected to be in attendance as we formally welcome all of our new students and pray for God’s blessing as they begin their Brophy journey.

Students should be in Mass dress — blue or white dress shirt, khaki or dark-colored dress slacks, brown or black belt, brown or black dress shoes and socks, and a Brophy tie. The Varsity Shop will be open after Convocation for families to make purchases for the coming school year.

Back-to-School Night: Aug. 13 — Join us on campus for a parents-only event. You'll have the opportunity to meet each of your son's teachers by following his schedule. The evening will conclude with a brief meeting with his Freshman Advisor.

Frosh Mixer: Aug. 15 This annual on-campus event hosted by Brophy Student Council for incoming Brophy and Xavier freshmen will be held on Friday, Aug. 15 from 7-9 p.m. More information, including the dress code, will be announced at a later date.

Freshman Retreat: Sept. 20-21
The Freshman Retreat begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at noon on Sunday. All freshmen are required to participate in the retreat. More details will be provided by the Office of Faith and Justice once school begins.

Freshman Advisory

Brophy’s Freshman Advisory Program is designed to foster a successful transition for each freshman in all aspects of Brophy life: academic, co-curricular, social and spiritual. Each advisor will be charged with a small group of freshmen for whom his/her primary responsibility is cura personalis. This Latin phrase literally translates to “care of the person” and is a hallmark of Jesuit education.

Freshman will be notified of their advisor assignment in early August and will meet their advisor at orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Find more information here.

Want to follow the Activities and Athletics Calendars?

The Activities and Athletics Calendars are a reflection of life at Brophy. On any given day there is a multitude of events that occur from early morning through late evening that involve our students, faculty, staff and parents. The details of many of those events are subject to change. The Activities and Athletics Calendars are available online and will be updated as we are made aware of changes. The calendars are available through the Brophy website and, using an iCal file, will be accessible from virtually any mobile device, laptop or computer. At this link you will find a guide for your use in subscribing to the Brophy online calendars from your particular online calendar, whether you use Microsoft Outlook, Mac Calendar or Google Calendar. You should be able to print the calendar from these platforms as well; however, we recommend that you do not attempt to print anything more than a weekly version.

Lastly, here's the 2025-26 Important Dates Calendar

You can find this list on myBrophy, the website or click here. Remember, trips/family vacations must be scheduled around school holidays and breaks.
  • > Student Parking Permits

    2025-26 Student Parking Permits
Any Brophy junior or senior interested in obtaining a parking permit to park on campus must organize his carpool prior to submitting an application. Sophomores who are interested in obtaining a parking permit may apply for a POP lot sticker (post office parking lot on Highland, east of Seventh Street). Completed applications will be reviewed by the Dean’s Office. Permits will be distributed during orientation in August.

Submission of a completed application does not guarantee that a student will receive a permit. Go to myBrophy > Resource Board > Dean’s Office > Student Parking Permits 2025-26, or click here to complete the form online and pay for your parking permit now. If you prefer to mail in your application, please print this form and mail to the Brophy Business Office at the address on the bottom of the form.
  • > Technology Resources/Textbook Information

    For All Parents and Students:
Textbooks and Digital Resources for the 2025-26 School Year
Most student textbooks and resources will be available for download on students’ MacBook Airs at no additional cost when the 2025-26 school year begins; however, for some classes, students will need to purchase a paper textbook through an online retailer. The complete list of textbooks and resources for next year is located here, and is also and is also accessible through myBrophy by going to the Student Portal or Parent Portal. The list was finalized on June 27, the last day of summer school. This gives students and parents several weeks to acquire any required texts. (There are online links to where purchases can be made for any required hard-copy books/textbooks.)

The myBrophy software is getting an upgrade this July and will be temporarily unavailable. The updated myBrophy system and schedules will be finalized in mid-July. Parents and students will receive an email when myBrophy and next year's schedules are ready.
Email Mr. Blair Cook at bcook@brophyprep.org with any textbook questions.

Note: No books should be purchased unless the course for which it is required is actually on the student’s schedule. If the course is an elective and the student is contemplating a schedule change, please do not purchase the book until his schedule is considered final. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he has the proper texts and resources for each course he takes.

    Caring for MacBook Airs
Please talk to your son this summer about how he cares for his computer, encourage good practices and correct any poor habits before they lead to problems. Click here for tips and warranty information.

    Technology Resources Website for Parents
Parents have an online resource for information and tips about technology, screen time and parenting in a digital age. There is a wealth of research, best practices and suggestions available, and many of those resources have been gathered on this site. We encourage parents to explore what is available and talk to their sons this summer about technology use.

    For Freshman Parents and Students
Important: Class of 2029 MacBook Air Pickup and Technology Training
All students from the class of 2029 will pick up their MacBook Air computers and other technology items during Freshman Orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Students will then complete required online training through Canvas, our learning management system. Our technology staff will be working this summer to do the initial setup on each computer so students will pick up a MacBook Air that is pre-assigned to them and largely ready to use.

Students and parents will receive an email from Mr. Mica Mulloy in early August with more information about their computer, account access and training; the email will include a barcode for pickup. Please watch for that email and make sure your son has either an electronic or printed copy of it with him at Freshman Orientation. He will use that barcode to receive his computer.

  • >Summer School Grades and Class Schedules

As you may have already read, Brophy is changing its School Information System (SIS) once summer school ends on June 27. Families will not have access to myBrophy for at least the first half of July as we move from Blackbaud to Veracross as our SIS. Once that migration has taken place, we will let students know how to check their final schedules in the new SIS, which will still be called myBrophy but with a slightly different interface, in late July/beginning of August before the school year resumes.

Students who attended summer school should be able to view their final grades in Canvas after July 6, and those grades will be imported into Veracross in July as part of that migration.

Students were invited via email by the Scheduling Office to view their 2025-26 schedules in myBrophy during the first half of June, and to alert the Scheduling Office if there were mistakes in their schedule so that they could be immediately addressed before the SIS migration.  As the SIS migration of student schedules has now begun, we are unable to make any schedule changes at this time.

When students are alerted in mid/late July via email that they can view their schedules in the new myBrophy interface, there will be a Google Form they can complete if they want to request a schedule change.  Please note that these will be the operating protocols for 2025-26 schedule changes:

    • If there is a mistake in a student’s schedule–e.g., he is missing a graduation requirement, he doesn’t have enough classes on his schedule, or he is scheduled for a class he already took–then we will adjust that student’s schedule to correct the mistake.

    • A student may request an elective course change, but those changes will only be made if they are practical and feasible given class sizes and the master schedule, and if they do not require multiple classes being changed.  Preference will be given to seniors for elective change requests.  There is no guarantee that we will be able to change elective courses, however.  Finally, no elective changes will take place after classes begin on August 7.

    • A student may request to drop an elective course for a Flex/Free period provided he doesn’t need the credit and still carries the minimum number of classes in the semester (6 for 9th-11th graders, and 5 for 12th graders).

    • Students may not request to drop from an Honors or AP course which they requested during their spring meetings with Frosh Advisors/College Counselors and for which they have been approved before 2025-26 classes begin. The master schedule was created, and class sizes determined, based on those requests.  Should a student experience demonstrable struggle in an Honors or AP class in the first week of fall classes, he may inquire with his Frosh Advisor/College Counselor about dropping to a regular section of the course, but schedule changes will only be made if they are practical and feasible given class sizes and the master schedule, and if they do not require multiple classes being changed.

Students should pay attention to their emails in mid-to-late July for updated scheduling information.

      Archery – Coach Jason Svedin
      • Archery tryouts (no experience needed) will be held in September. The exact dates will be shared once school begins.
      • Tryouts consist of introducing prospective archers to the sport, to members of our team, and to the coaching staff. Each participant will receive an introduction to archery, safety rules, the season, and what to expect. Current team members will review range rules and demonstrate how to shoot a bow safely, providing instructions on the basics of the form sequence. Each prospect will then have an opportunity to shoot the bow at our range in the basement of Loyola Hall. This is an opportunity to try out archery and see if you're interested in committing to the sport and the team. It will also be a time for the coaches to gauge your interest and get to know you. We look forward to meeting you.
